The dark side behind the scenes in plantations.
A Web Documentary in 5 Episodes - Episode 1
In the DNA of ActionAid France, there has always been a support for and highlighting of those who fight for the defense of their economic, social, and cultural rights. One of our partners, the ASTAC union, invited us to Ecuador to document, observe, and showcase their daily struggle in banana plantations, as well as alongside peasants whose way of life is now threatened.
We invited two personalities, two artists from civil society to join us, to summon their creativity, inspire creation, awaken their sensitivity and creativity, nourish their reflection, and enable them to participate, in their own way, in the defense of a food system that respects both people and the planet.
With pencils in hand, comic book author Blanche Sabbah and rapper Hippocampe Fou bear witness to the working conditions in Ecuador and tell the stories of those who are fighting for their rights.
Comic book author and feminist activist, Blanche Sabbah runs the Instagram account @Lanuitremueparis. Her illustrations, infused with humor, poetry, and feminism, make Blanche one of the most inspiring artists of her generation.
Singer-songwriter, Hippocampe Fou is a musician who draws inspiration from both Busta Rhymes and Georges Brassens. He skillfully wields acrobatic flows, wordplay, and storytelling with surprising dexterity.
In this first episode, Hippo begins his journey in Isla de Bejucal, in the heart of Ecuador. Bananas reign supreme there, but those who cultivate and harvest them work under conditions close to slavery.
Blanche sets out to meet women who are fighting against gender-based discrimination and sexual violence in the workplace.
Blanche and Hippo confront the abuses of agro-industry and meet communities who have been deprived of their lands.
Giving voice to activists who share their visions for ensuring the protection of the environment and human rights.
Nosotros is the result of these encounters, with agricultural workers, activists, and marginalized communities.
