Our Food: The Bitter Truth - Episode 2 : Breaking Silence

OUR FOOD:
THE BITTER
TRUTH

Today, most of the products we consume contain invisible ingredients: human rights or environmental violations committed with impunity by a few multinational corporations.

How agro-industry seizes our lands and our bodies.

Let's break the silence on sexist and sexual violence.

A Web Documentary in 5 Episodes - Episode 2

For women, working and being able to live with dignity from their work remains harder than for men everywhere in the world. The agricultural sector is no exception, far from it. They are paid less than men, occupy the most precarious positions, and face inappropriate gestures, insults, and even aggression that they can hardly report for fear of losing their jobs. To help female workers defend themselves, our Ecuadorian partner ASTAC has created a dedicated space for information and mutual support.

In this second episode, Blanche meets women who are fighting against gender-based discrimination and sexual violence in banana plantations.

Double Jeopardy

Blanche highlights the double jeopardy that many women face in the plantations: they work as much as men but are the only ones responsible for taking care of the children and the household...
Take a look

Maricela“Regardless of whether you’re a woman, they’ll give you men’s work and they’ll harass you to force you to quit.”

Maricela leads the Women's Rights Commission of the ASTAC union.
